I remember on the first day of school, i was very afraid because i had stepped into a totally new environment: faces of the students, the teachers were all different. I had stepped into Kent Ridge Secondary School, the school which was going to have many memories for me. the buildings and facilities of the school were very new, as the school had only started on year 2000.
I was nervous and afraid as we had to stand up and introduce ourselves to the class and teachers. we had to say our names, our personal details, like, our hobbies, our favourite subjects. I never like doing this and until now i still dislike doing it. I am unsure of why i dislike it, so whenever it is my turn to introduce myself, i would just keep it short, sweet and simple.
Most of my primary school friends were not in the same secondary school as me, because Kent Ridge secondary schoolis a further school away from my house, compared to the neighbouring schools. This meant that i had to start making friends again, because we were all not aware of each other's character. This made it more difficult to make friends, or to start a conversation with them. And also, we were all too shy to approach each other. Because of this, there was neither laughter nor chit-chatting going on in the class, so the classroom was definitely quiet and we just followed the teachers' instructions. No matter if we understood those instructions or not, or if those instructions even made any sense, we just followed blindly without question.
We were brought by some student councillors of the school to walk around the school. It was to allow us to have a better understanding of the school, also to prevent us from getting lost. They also arranged for us to play some ice-breaker games with our classmates to develop a bonding, and also to help us realise the potential within us, while playing games that involved thinking and team-work.

Hello Mrs.Yeo,
How are you? It has been more than half a year since you are not in Kent Ridge. We miss you a lot! Hope you are feeling better and come back to school ok? Year 2007 is very different from year 2008. School life has changed a lot too. The building of the school are repainted too, the reporting time to school on Thursday was later. Although these two events may seem helpful to us, it also has a negative side.
Firstly, repainting of the school may be a good thing because it changes the look of the buildings, and it will look new again. But, the colors were not as nice as the past. Now the colors consist of, red, orange, brown. It looks more like a primary school rather than a secondary school. In my opinion, I would still choose the previous colors.
And also, this year, construction work has been going on in the school. Sometimes, it can be very noisy. It might distract some of the students. And because the school is undergoing painting, some parts of the school had to be blocked. This disallowed us to walk, especially the staircase to out level, we had to walk by another way, which can be troublesome.
Secondly, we were allowed to report to school by 8.30am every Thursday. This is because every Thursday morning, teachers will have their meeting in school. Reporting by 8.30am have its pros and cons. Good point is, if the student is staying at a further place, from the school, there would be a longer time for them to prepare for school. It would not be such a rush for them.
But, the bad point is, some pupils may take this chance to sleep longer, or take their own time to go to school. So, allowing them to be late for school. And also, the bus would be very packed because everybody is on their way to work. The road would also be jammed due to all the vehicles traveling on the road at the same time. This also would cause the students to be late for school.
With love,
Ren Feng (4E6)
